"The Christmas Haunting" is the first episode in the sixteenth series of ''Midsomer Murders''. The episode aired on Christmas Eve 2013. This series starred DCI John Barnaby. Barnaby was accompanied by new Decetive Sargent Charlie Nelson. In overnight figures, the episode suffered a dip, dropping to 3.66 million viewers, with an audience share of 15.7%. When the episode was repeated on ITV+1 a further 401.3k tuned in, receiving an audience share of 1.8%. DCI Barnaby and new Sargeant Charlie Nelson are on the case. During their investigation, they meet the wife of the victim and her singing teacher, whom was in a secret relationship with Mr Bridgeman. In addition, they come across the landlord of the local pub, the owners of some tea rooms in the village and the owners of the manor house. Then, another ghost hunt is organised, this time at the pub.
